Step-by-Step Guide to Connect a Soundbar to a Vizio TV Using an Optical Cable
1. Verify Device Port Compatibility
Check your Vizio TV's rear or side panel for an Optical or Digital Audio Out port.
Ensure your soundbar has an Optical In port.
2. Connect the Optical Cable
Insert one end of the optical cable vertically into the TV's Optical Out port and the other end into the soundbar's Optical In port. The square-shaped connectors are keyed to prevent incorrect insertion-align them properly.
3. Configure TV Audio Output
Open the TV's settings menu and navigate to Audio Settings or Sound Output.
Set the Audio Output Mode to Optical/Digital Audio Out. Choose PCM for compatibility (some devices may require Bitstream-check your soundbar's manual).
4. Select the Soundbar Input Source
Use the soundbar's remote to switch its input source to Optical or Digital In.
5. Test and Troubleshoot
Play audio from the TV. If no sound is heard:
Ensure the optical cable is fully inserted and undamaged.
Confirm the TV's internal speakers are disabled and external audio output is enabled.
Verify the soundbar is set to the correct input source.
Notes:
Optical cables transmit audio signals only-video signals must be handled separately.
Keep the optical cable length reasonable (excessive length can cause signal degradation).
