Advantages and disadvantages of different types of fiber optic connectors

Leave a message

1. ST Connector

ST connector is a common fiber optic connector, which is characterized by simple structure and reliable connection. It adopts a circular shell and threaded connection, and is suitable for multi-mode fiber optic connection. The advantages of ST connector are that it is plugged and unplugged more times, has a long service life, and can withstand a large tensile force. However, ST connectors are large in size, not suitable for high-density cabling, and require more space for installation.

2.SC connectors

SC connector is a common fiber optic connector, which is characterized by stable connection, easy plugging and unplugging. It uses a square shell and plug-in connection, suitable for single-mode fiber connection.SC connector has the advantage of small size, easy to install, suitable for high-density wiring. However, the SC connector has a relatively short service life with fewer insertions and removals. At the same time, it is also more sensitive and requires careful operation.

3. LC connectors

The LC connector is a miniaturized fiber optic connector characterized by small size and stable connection. It uses a small shell and plug-in connection, suitable for high-density wiring.LC connector has the advantage of more plugging and unplugging, long service life, suitable for application scenarios that require frequent plugging and unplugging. However, the structure of the LC connector is more complex, production and installation is more difficult.

4.MPO connectors

MPO connector is a multi-core fiber optic connector, which is characterized by high-density, high-speed transmission. It uses a number of fiber cores arranged in a connector, suitable for data centers and high-speed network applications. The advantages of MPO connectors are fast connection speed, simple cabling, suitable for high-capacity data transmission. However, MPO connectors require the use of specialized equipment for fabrication and installation, which is costly.

When choosing fiber optic connectors, they should be considered according to specific application scenarios and needs. If multi-mode fiber connection is required, ST connector is a reliable choice; if single-mode fiber connection is required and high-density cabling is needed, SC connector and LC connector are better choices; if high-capacity data transmission is required, MPO connector is an ideal choice. Each type of connector has its own advantages and disadvantages, which need to be weighed and selected according to the actual situation.
