The Rodent prevention option of optical cable can be divided into three types: chemical protection and mechanical protection (and metal protection and non-metal protection).
Chemical protection
It refers to the fiber optic cable outer sheath material mixed with a chemical toxic substance that is fatal to rat bite, such as bitter agents and capsaicin.
This anti-rodent method is generally not used. The reasons are as follows:
1. There are safety problems in the production and processing of the sheath material, as well as the large taste, and many suppliers have stopped production.
2. When the cable is working, even if the mouse kills after biting, the cable is also damaged, not enough to further protect the cable.
Metal protection
Refers to the use of metal materials such as steel wire stranded sheath, or in the general optical cable using Corrugated steel tape, appropriate increase the thickness of steel belt, can also use stainless steel belt, to achieve a long time of rodent effect. Therefore, the essence of the metal protection layer is to prevent the damage of the rat bite through the metal outer armor of the optical cable.
Non-metal protection
1.The extruded sheath made of high hardness nylon material is smooth and hard, which is conducive to protecting rat bite.
2. Glass fiber yarn, glass fiber tape, FRP, essentially is the use of small glass fiber to rat oral damage, there are two kinds of glass fiber tape process: one is multiple glass fiber tape with steel stranded equipment twisted on the cable cable core; the other is wrapped on the cable core, considering the bending performance, glass fiber tape thickness should not be 0.5mm. The rat-bite armor structure also increases the compression crush resistance of the optical cable.
